Located in Castelvetro di Modena in the heart of the first of Modena, La Piana Winery draws its origins from a deep-rooted family farming culture. The start of the business dates back to 1951 when Cesare Gianaroli began to work and transform the grapes from his own vineyard located on the fascinating hills of Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro. The lead later passes to his son Graziano, who suddenly passes away in 1992.

Mirco at the young age of 14, with the aim of carrying on the family passion, takes the lead renovating the cellar with the best technologies and transforming the vineyards, obtaining optimal results on the product appreciated by a growing network of both Italian and foreign customers. La Piana Winery is spread over 8 hectares of vineyards between Castelvetro and Vignola, produces about 60,000 bottles distributed on 12 labels using 70% of self-produced clean energy thanks to a latest generation photovoltaic system.

Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro, Pignoletto, Malbo Gentile and Trebbiano di Modena - these are the vines we take care of and work with. Our intent is to create quality wines, obtained according to natural methods and in harmony with the territory where they are born. For this reason, we exclusively grow native vines - because they bear incredible charm in their place of evolution - and we do it following organic methods from the land to the cellar, promoting an agriculture respectful of the environment, aimed at making high quality wines and reflecting the characteristics of the vine they originate from.

"Wine is not produced in the cellar, but in the vineyard" - this has always been the basis of our thinking with attention to the land and its fertility, to the vineyard that grows on it and its healthiness, to the care of it from pruning to harvest time, rigorously by hand. Today everyone talks about 'organic', but until a few years ago we were almost forced to hide the organic brand in the corner of the label. These wines were considered of poor quality, because of those producers who justified the flaws of their products with the excuse: “it's organic, it's natural!”. The BIO brand thus becomes an added value for La Piana Winery, not a excuse. The tangible climate changes that farmers see and experience season after season are an incentive to raise awareness on the importance of production methods choices even more!

'After all, we are what we eat ... and what we drink.'
